Physical and Medical Tests for CBI Sub Inspector

I assume that every aspirant of Sub Inspector post in CBI knows by now that physical and medical examination needs to be carried out by an authorized doctor for your suitability to the post based on which you will be given an appointment letter at later stage by the CBI Head Quarters. Before you read further, i request you to go through the CGL notification which details about various physical and medical standards required for each post in CGL.

As per all the previous notifications as on 2019, only two types of people are NOT eligible for CBI SI.
  • Physically Handicapped.
  • Those who don't meet physical standards i.e. just Height, Chest and Vision.
All other are eligible for the post. If someone objects you at later stage other than those two grounds, you can file a case in the court for the injustice done to you. You will win the case.

Example: I have flat foot. Am i eligible?
Answer: Does it fall under any of the two criteria mentioned above? I would like to read an authentic source where it is written that such people are not eligible for CBI post. I would also like to know how Military jobs or CPO jobs criteria is relevant to CBI jobs criteria? Is CBI a defense service (Airforce, Military, Naval)? CBI is not even an armed force. Didn't SSC mention specific criteria for CBI job? Show some maturity to identify what is authentic and genuine information available over the web. As internet is open, any private person can write anything. Only authentic document like SSC notification can decide the criteria for any job, not some private websites.

Example: I have tattoos on my body. Am i eligible for the post of Sub-Inspector of Police in CBI?
Answer: Read and understand the above mentioned two conditions. Does it fall under the criteria?

Example: I have bald head. Am i eligible?
Answer: Again!! Does it fall under the above-mentioned criteria?
Few people are not giving work to logical part of their brain in understanding their eligibility having read the SSC notification and explained here. Use common sense.

Example: I faint when i see blood. Will there be any problem?
Answer:  Yes!! There is a problem for your parents/friends/life partner as they need to take care of you every time you see blood.

Example: I have the problem of "PNEUMONO ULTRAMICROSCOPIC SILICO VOLCANO CONIOSIS". Will there be any problem?
Answer:  Yes!! This time the problem is with me. I need to do medicine to understand your problem. Pls wait until i get back to you on this.

Example: I have the problem of severe hair fall. Will there be any problem?
Answer:  Yes!! A moron is trying to join CBI and spoil its name. So, very big problem for the whole country. Despite repeatedly requesting not to ask about various medical conditions, a few are continuing to ask such. This blog is for serious CBI job aspirants. It is not a consulting blog for medical problem.

If notification says 2 x 2 = 4, does it make sense if you get a doubt whether 2 x 2 = 5, 2 x 2 =16, 2 x 2 =1357 etc as you have read it somewhere else. These kind of doubts and confusion would never end. It needs basic common sense to come out of such confusion. Just follow the notification published in that year, not anything else including this blog.

Pls understand that there are umpteen number of Physical/Medical problems that can come to a human body and i am not the right person to assess your eligibility for each and every medical problem. If i need to cover each and every medical problem, this blog space is not sufficient. So, Pls Pls Pls Pls avoid all such medical problems related questions and such questions/comments will be just ignored. I am sorry for doing so. As i anyway ignore/delete them, so don't take pain in typing the problem here and Pls do not ping me for asking these questions.

Ok. I have medical problems about which i am still having doubts whether i am eligible for CBI SI post or not. How can i get it clarified so that i can be confident in future?

If you personally know any CMO of a government hospital, take the medical forms that are available here and make him aware of eligibility rules for CBI SI to the extent mentioned in those forms. Explain all your medical history and current problems WHATEVER and check with him about your suitability for this post. You can even check about eligibility for colour blind. Pls note that this is only a advice so that you will have clear mind while filling the post preference. This exercise will be your private affair completely.

Ok, Who are called Physically Handicapped?

It is again defined in the notification. Candidates with physical disability of 40% and more would be considered physically handicapped and such persons would carry a disability certificate to claim various benefits. SSC doesn't define this 40% figure on its own. It is as per DOPT guideline. More related information here.

Ok. Who decides if i have physical disability of 40% or more?

Medical Board duly constituted by the Central or a State Government. The Central/State Government may constitute Medical Board(s) consisting of at least three members out of which at least one shall be a specialist in the particular field for assessing locomotor / cerebral / visual / hearing disability. They will observe certain parameters of your body before arriving at the percentage figure.

Now, let us suppose if you have a leg/hand or some other injury and the bones are joined/replaced with rods in your leg/hand. Will you be eligible for CBI SI? You can find the answer for this question in the definition of Physically Handicapped.

If you still have doubts whether my case would be 40% or less, contact nearest Medical board and clear your doubts so that you can confidently opt for this post that you are passionate about. The percentage figure can't be cleared in this blog as i am neither a doctor nor the medical board member. I can only guide you where you can get things ascertained. In fact, even a qualified doctor may not ascertain things just over the internet and just by reading your problem.

Ok. Pls throw some light on requirement of physical standards as well?

This is very much detailed in the notification. However, for the sake of readers, i am pasting the same here. If you ask me whether a candidate is eligible if his height is 164.5 cm, then i have a question for you. Is a candidate eligible for next level of examination in CGL if the cutoff is declared to be 130 and you got 129.75?

Other than what is mentioned above, no other physical tests are done.

Example: I have undergone Lasik surgery. Will i be eligible?
Answer: If your eye sight is proper, nothing matters. So, it is not a problem. Think practical. No one going to operate your eye and say that because of lasik, he is able to see/read something well. There is no restriction mentioned about Lasik surgery in notification. With that, you can have. Don't get confused between eligibility criteria for a job in CBI and eligibility criteria for a job in defense services.

Example: I use spectacles. Will i be eligible?
Answer: Did you read the notification properly? If not, Pls read the contents of the above pasted image once again. Few aspirants are so silly/stupid that they don't believe the contents of SSC CGL official notification and still believe what is being circulated or discussed on the net. Moreover, don't get confused between eligibility criteria for a job in CBI and eligibility criteria for a job in defense services.

Now, let us understand the whole process involved in medical examination after CBI HQ send a letter to you to that effect.

How to proceed for Medical Examination?
    • You can get your medical examination done by personally going to the respective CMO (Chief Medical Officer. Here, CMO doesn't mean Causality Medical Officer which is in fact another post in a govt hospital) of the Government Hospital mentioned in your medical examination letter and not to any other hospital. This medical examination is a paid service and we don't have to pay anything for this. Payment is internally dealt by the hospital and CBI. CBI prescribes you such approved govt hospital which is nearer to your Present Address that you had given to SSC.
    • When you go to the hospital, you need to go to the record section as they would have already received a copy of your medical examination request letter from CBI. They check their records for the letter, identify you and guide you accordingly to the concerned doctor. Ideally, hospital would also send you another letter requesting you to appear for the medical examination on a particular day. However, we can take initiative and approach the hospital if a letter is received either from CBI or from the hospital. Hospital copy of the request letter by CBI would be missing if you approach any other hospital than what is recommended. Given the doctor appointment, medical examination takes not more than an hour, in worst case. Sometimes it is even done by the junior doctors or trainees on the advice of CMO.
      • If you feel there is no proper cooperation by the hospital staff, you may approach the Superintendent of the hospital. He is head of the hospital.
        • In step 1, if anyone demand for any bribe, you can politely deny saying that it is for CBI. They might demand as they are habituated to the practice. Keep your voice recording on in your mobile such that it gets stored in removable memory card. If they are insisting for bribe even after you told them that it is for CBI job, come out of the hospital by saying them that you need to withdraw money from an ATM. Immediately report the matter to CBI office, Play the audio recording and do as they direct, to feel the real time ACB power for the first time in your life. Don't think like a common man i.e. something like "why to take unnecessary headaches by complaining", "i will excuse him for this time", "What is the wrong when everybody is corrupted in India", "Iss baar chodenge", "Areee yaar..kaam karaake nikaljaayenge ghar ko" etc.. Remember that you are getting into most prestigious organization i.e. CBI and no major hurdles for you even if you inform the matter to ACB. It is shame on us to give bribe having selected for CBI that controls corruption. A doctor of ordinary prudence and ego levels would generally give your medical report without troubling you.
          • An SI/ASI along with a constable comes from CBI department to meet you and enquire about your address and medical check-up status. If your medical is already done by then, you can handover the medical report to them, along with your cast certificate if you have availed any reservation. So, keep the cast certificate always ready until you formally join the organization. You can also go to the respective CBI office on the day of your medical examination itself to handover the report along with your mobile number rather than waiting for some CBI official to come to your house to collect the same. You can do this as per your convenience.

What all tests are done in medical examination for the post of SI in CBI?

It is just Height, Eyesight, Chest with and without expansion, Heart Beat, BP and a self-declaration about all your previous major diseases, if any. When they say "Chest with and without expansion", no need to do extra exercises just for the purpose of bulging your chest. An ordinary man meets this requirement by default. The doctors do medical examination as a formality and nothing to worry. It is a simple process.

Don't think that all the tests which are done in CPO and defense services are also done here. For medical tests, don't compare CBI with other CPOs and defense services. CBI medical tests are very nominal and simple. This is only a formality. CBI is not a defense or a para-military service.

No problem even if you have color blindness as it is nowhere mentioned in the notification. If it is mentioned in the notification of that year, Pls go with that. Remember, Notification and related corrigendum are your only standard reference to clear your eligibility doubt, not any other document/YouTube video/ internet article whatsoever. If you have any authentic proof saying color blind people are ineligible, pls do share such authentic link in comment section to update this article accordingly.

CMO decides your suitability for this post based on ALL your health condition. You inform him all your illness. Pls note that no one is competent to decide if your particular ailment/disability is a disqualification to this job unless he is a certified and prescribed doctor. Prescribed doctor for your medical examination is the only final competent authority.

If you want to manage your medical reports (or cast certificate) for any reason, then it is a risky feat. As it happens in any crime, every person is considered modest until he is caught. So, even in the case of manipulated report, until you are caught, it is fine and everything goes smooth. If the verification actually happens, then both the candidate and the doctor will be in big trouble of criminal conspiracy and cheating. It is nothing but taking a chance. What if some unknown person from your circle write a complaint/letter to the department out of jealous that a specific person is actually medically unfit as per the notification but he was given a job.

In general, when you report to CBI after receiving your appointment letter, no separate medical tests are done and they go by the doctor's certificate. If situation crops up for any reason, remember that nothing stops CBI in finding the actual truth, even after many years. So, finally it is up to the candidate whether to take a chance or not. In fact, risk is a risk irrespective of the department you work for.

You can find the original medical and other forms here that a candidate receive from CBI HQ in which the person has to mention about his previous ailments.

            Finally, Stay healthy !!

Some say it won’t be a problem. Its one time chance Sir pleas understand. If opted for cbi and then rejected One will have to give the exam again for even TA level jobs. Hope you understand.

              1. What is mentioned about weight w.r.t CBI?

                Delete
              2. Sir, In the physical fitness table of CBEC, they have not mentioned weight criteria for male. However, they do mention following in next para,that..
"NOTE: For the post of Inspector Central Excise, Examiner and Preventive Officer, as per
CBEC’s letter No. C-18013/23/2013-Ad II B dated 20.11.2013, persons with disabilities will
have to meet the physical standards i.e. Height, Chest and *Weight* prescribed for the post
of Inspectors, Central Excise, Examiner and Preventive Officer in CBEC."
So, can it be the case in CBI too ?
Though not mentioning weight criteria in the table, what if they reject on that ground!
And you also mentioned about the need of producing a medical certificate(in which they do measure weight, I know) before the authority, can it become the source of rejection ?
So, Sir kindly look upon this query as it can lead to another futile 2 years.
I am underweight. Rest physical criteria are followed by me.

            21. Hello Sir, Thanks for sharing your experience and guiding us.

I understand the physical requirement is just needed as it is given in notification. However, I have a doubt regarding chest expansion. It is "given 76 cm with expansion" but it does not say "minimum requirement of 5 cm expansion"(which is required for other inspector posts). I have chest measurement of 84 cm but my expansion is just 3 cm. Could it be a problem? or as you mentioned, nothing except what is notification, is needed?

I completely understand your point that nothing except what is said in the notification is valid. If you could please just confirm that it is not necessary, then it will be weight off my mind. Thanks once again.

Because if your eyevision can be corrected then what is the need of mentioning 6/6 6/9 etc with or without glasses. 2)Also, in many other job notifications if they don't mention "with or without glasses" does that mean the candidate must match the vision requirements without glasses only?

            42. Sir kindly provide some information about eligibility of color blind candidates.
From CGL 2016 onwards, Vacancy list of ssc cgl has a column of color blind candidates eligibility for each post. In 2016 it was no for cbi, whereas in 2017 and 2018 it is yes, i.e., color blind candidates are shown eligible.

Similarly, for AEO (ED), in CGL 2017 vacancy list color blinds are eligible, whereas in 2018 they are not.

Sir, because of such frequent changes in the color blind candidates' eligibility status, it has become really difficult to choose a particular post.

Kindly provide some information about it.
