Place of posting for Sub Inspectors of CBI
"Place of posting" is the one word that every government servant is concerned about. It is the major concern for everyone working in central government. It is so common in every departments to write a letter to the higher official requesting for transfer on some real or cooked-up grounds. The same problem haunts even CBI personnel. However, in other jobs like IT, Excise you have more branches due to their need. But this is not so in CBI as there will be only a branch for one state, at max second one. So, many people are little worried on this ground to opt for this post in CGL.
In CBI, 2-3 weeks before completion of your training, you get a chance to give your preferred place of branch posting. You can opt for three cities in precedence. If anyone is interested in specific area of investigation like SCB, EOW, they should opt for such branch where SCB is there and these special branches are not present at every location and hence they are not like ACB branches. Wherever there is a CBI office, there is an ACB branch in that city. You can find the network of all CBI offices in India here.
It is up to the JD to consider your priority based on the direction of CBI Director. Allotment purely depends on personal taste/strategy of the CBI director of that time. So, don't ask me what are the chances of getting home posting in CBI. If CBI director says "Go as per candidate's wish", then you would get home posting just like that. Like every manager has their own style of handling a matter, a police officer also has his own style. Can you talk about the style of a person whom you never met and saw? So is the case whether we can predict if the director can give orders to post as per candidate's wish.
It is up to them to decide if the allocation of branches should happen based on alphabetical order or CBI Academy training performance or CGL rank. The criteria was different for different batches.

All CBI aspirants can know about a pleasing example. Just after CGL-2015 CBI SI batch is passed out, ALL the cadets are given place of posting as per cadet's choice i.e. home state is given for ALL the cadets. For some cadets, it even turned it to be same district of their native. If there are no vacancies in the first preference, they have given the second opted branch.
CBI has indeed taken note of cadet's concern and CGL aspirants aspirations and higher authority wanted to keep everyone happy in the organization so that they can focus more on the work. Hence such decision on place of posting. This is a significant change in the strategy of the organization. If you don't believe these words and needs some confirmation, Pls check with any person you know from CGL-15 CBI SI batch and verify these words.
All are smiling now after this wonderful move by CBI. They are eager to move out of the academy to their respective branches after such a long training. According to the branch distance from Ghaziabad, each new officer is given few days time to report at the respective branches. During this time, you can plan all things that are needed for your regular living. In case you report earlier, unconsumed days are credited to your earned leave balance. This is applicable for transfer of any central government employee.

Update on 24-Dec-2018:
The CGL-2016 batch candidates were thrown randomly across the country and they were not even given a chance to know about their willing place of work. Just random. No request of any kind worked. CBI director changed in the month of Oct, Nov-18 and hence the change between CGL-15 and CGL-16 batches. So, you would have understood what is meant by personal style of a director. So, you never know who will be the director of CBI and what would be his style. It all depends on your luck. They are many serving officials in the department who are awaiting a decision to be taken on their written request for their transfer, for many months and even years in some cases.
Q) What is the transfers policy in CBI? How frequently will i be transferred in CBI?
Regarding transfers, Pls read Q390 here.

ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteYou have done a great service to people who wanted to opt for a career in CBI by building this blog. Thank you for taking out time to do this.
I have one question though and I couldn't find an answer to this anywhere on the internet. Are CBI sub-inspector allowed to keep beard (even a little bit of trimmed and well maintained stubble)? I know that other police force and armed forces aren't but since CBI isn't a uniform job, is it possible to sport a well maintained beard?
During training as sir said ... u have to fully shaved otherwise punishment z there
DeleteI read about the training part but my question was concerning the period after the completion of your training i.e. after you join the CBI as a sub-inspector. Can you keep a beard then? Any sort of response would be appreciated.
