Why an aspirant Should (not) opt for CBI?

I am sure you might have read here and there about CBI and other CGL job profiles. With that assumption, i would like to pose a question to this blog readers. The question is very clear by now after looking at the heading of this article. However, i repeat the question:

Why an aspirant Should / Should Not opt for CBI?

Consider this as an essay question for your Tier 3 and post your responses in the comments section. I would appreciate that answer which is not copied from any website/blog, having at least 450 words and it should be your own writing. You can carry the question either way, not necessarily positive. I know most would just read this and skip to other article as they will be reluctant to share their thoughts in essay form. This is because followers are more in this world and everyone can't be a leader though they always wanted to be.

  1. i have read about CBI and other jobs profile which are offered through ssc cgl in various sites and based on that knowledge i am writing my opinion. Please correct me if i am wrong in any of my view points.

    WHY I OPT FOR CBI:

Your whole blog talks about this and i feel that there is not much to tell about this.

    WHY I WON'T OPT CBI:

    1) Promotional aspects in CBI are not great. It takes 15 years to become DySP(if you cannot clear departmental exam) whereas with the same time you become IRS in income tax inspector and examiner. Clearly IRS is better post than DySP in CBI.

    2) Posting is all india. It is not much of a problem for all but for me i prefer home posting which i can get through income tax inspector and excise inspector.

    3) I think in long run income tax inspector's life is good. I need a peaceful life. I think in income tax we get time to spend with the family.
At the initial stages of our career CBI will be awesome but i don't think in long run CBI suits me. We have to travel a lot, stay away from our family when we are in Special Crime.

    4) NO under the table money. Seriously with 50k i don't think i will be saving much while i am living in tier 1 cities as most of the CBI offices are situated over there. My cousin works in Excise he lives in tier 2 city and he gets 15k side money every month. Even though you say that CBI will catch them i personally dont think that is going to happen unless he(one who takes side money) is more greedy

  2. Why I am thinking of opting for CBI

    1) I have graduated from B.Tech this year and wanted to prepare for UPSC. Instead of preparing from books or lectures I figured it would be best to have a practical experience on how the system works and then decide how I can contribute to said service. That was the main reason I have opted for CGLE. Coming to why CBI ... I haven't decided my optional subject yet so thinking of going with polity so that my work CBI will be a part of the preparation.

    2) As you stated that after training you feel as strong as an ox. That is one of the reasons I am thinking of opting for CBI. After all in a battle of Health vs Wealth, Health always wins. Sure you can train yourself but who pays you 50k a month for you to train.

Why I am thinking not to opt for CBI

    1) The timings of work are a concern for me. Instead of opting for CBI opting for ASO in AFHQ would have a better free time.

    2) Work Pressure

    3) Time taken for joining date. Seriously 9-10 months is a really long time.

  3. Why not to opt for a job at the Central Bureau of Investigation

    - BK Bansal was corrupt but does that entitle him to harassment to an extent where his whole family is pushed to suicide. People like Sanjeev Gautam who enjoy power irrespective of the political party in power deserve to be behind bars.( He is close to both Digvijay Singh and Amit shah)

    - Your disillusionment amuses me. I know of a case where a CBI investigation was completely changed for a sum of ₹5cr, exonerating an IPS who framed an innocent lower government employee.

    - This is a big one. 2 ex directors are under investigation currently. Not to forget the appointment of a special director was objected to by the director himself, on grounds of doubtful integrity.( Will he be on the ODI list this year?)

    - Another brilliant reason would be Ranjit sinha, Lalu prasad's favorite CBI man.

    - overworked and underpaid are tolerable but depressed gets a bit too much.

  4. the main thing is rhe job satisfication.in maximum number of high profile cases, the accused easily get away with the top brass influence.

in case of shrada kochar icici case, the officer was transfered because of doing his duty honestly, and Mr Rajnath Singh says its a investigation adventurism. cbi guys are the least paif and overworked resource of the government, even after knowing this, we opt for this only because of the power. when the power itself is selective then how would anyone join cbi.

second is the deputation guys influence on the own cadre. even id a deputation guy does wrong, he is just sent back to his parent dept nd not punished.

third is the mental pressure nd over burden of job nd not getting timely holidays. even after knowing all this if someone choses cbi he's really great.
