Question of the week 14-Jan-2018
What portion of the below parallelogram is in white ?
a) 2/5 b) 2/6 c) 2/7 d)2/8
a) 2/5 b) 2/6 c) 2/7 d)2/8
Answer to the previous week question here. This question is part of my upcoming book and it is solvable in 30 seconds. Your answer only with a logical explanation is welcomed in the comments section. Stay tuned for the technique and the answer. I
am making sure that my upcoming book is with many such beautiful problems .
Reading it will provoke new thoughts and bring out the best in you.
Solution (21-Jan-18):
Hint1: Join B and D.
Hint2: Fact that "Three medians of any triangle divide the given triangle into 6 triangles of equal area".
Not aware of this fact? Then learn here. This fact is the actual time saver.
By visualizing the medians of the triangles ABD and BDC and using the above Hint2, you can arrive at the answer 4/12 = 2/6 = 1/3.
Give a try !!

ReplyDelete2/6 divide the parallelogram into 12 divisions first half contains 2 whites and second contains 4 whites so 4/12=2/6.
ReplyDeleteOr project water image of any of the two halfs make sections.
DeleteHow are you making the divisions? What is your approach?
DeleteAB and BC get divided into two halfs.so area must be same.
DeleteHow are you making the 12 divisions? By drawing what line?
DeleteAjay Kumar Tummal Sir,
DeleteDivide triangle ABC in three equal parts (same as triangle ADC is already divided in 3 equal parts), then divide all of these equal parts(6 triangles) in 2 equal parts, now you get 12 equal parts(the white triangle near vertex A is one of these 12 equal triangles).
So we get 4 white triangle parts among these 12 parts.
Answer is (4/12) = (2/6).
Thank you!
Respected sir thank you for the valuable information through the blog. I have been selected as sub inspector through cgl 2016.My query is with respect to the accommodation that the government provides. Are the neighbouring areas safe? What are the facilities provided? If you could post pictures of the accommodation provided to sub inspector rank (maybe some friend opted for government quarters) that would really help me make a decision whether to join or not.
