Why do aspirants less prefer CBI post
Many a people have this doubt that when CBI is very powerful, why is that less aspirants opt for CBI or why the cutoff is less for CBI when power is the one that everyone wants to have. How to understand this?
There are mainly two categories.
- Wrong perceptions
- True Reasons
Whatever may be the reason, one can't afford to lose the beautiful rose considering its little thorns.
Wrong Perceptions:
- 90% of the CBI postings happen only in Delhi. If so, is CBI managing non-Delhi branches only with remaining 10% staff?
- Gets various threats from the accused. People build this notion after watching the movies. Do you think that the person can escape later by doing harm to a CBI person? He might be strong enough to harm a person but not the entire organization. When we all know that criminals are smart and matured, do you believe that he will do such mistake?
- Social
media creation that CBI job is very stressful and CBI is a jail for the
people who has committed the crime of opting that job. If a person having the habit of working for 1-2 hrs in an Audit department joins CBI and works for 3 hrs a day, he will claim that CBI job is very stressful as he started working 50% more. It all depends how the person thinks about it. Majorly, the working hours in CBI are regular government hours. Read more here.
- No leaves.
- No family life. If this is true, then there should be no kids for CBI officers.
- Very frequent transfers. (Remember that it is written in "wrong perceptions" section)
- No facilities. Fact is that CBI office is like any central government office, but better than state police
- Lot of powers but no time to show the powers. (If you are planning to misuse the power, you are at fault. In other words, Power is government property and you can't use it other than for official work)
Now, let us understand the true disadvantages (or) perceived problems of Sub Inspector (SI) post in CBI.
True Reasons:
- Training of CBI SI is for 8 months which is considered to be very lengthy period. For other posts it is comparatively less. For NIA, the training is almost for 14 months. Before CBI academy was setup, CBI training was also used to be for 14 months at NPA-Hyderabad along with IPS and few such CBI batches passed from there. 21 batches are passed from CBI academy.
- People are reluctant to do PT during the entire training period.
- Few doesn't like to be associated with the term 'police'. They have aversion from the very beginning. So, marriage prospects may be limited.
- CBI officers need to lead a regimental life, like any police officer. Your talk, walk, attitude, habits and way of living are under observation.
- Girls generally don't opt for this service as this job involves field work and they can't leave their kid. Baby needs mother more than father.
- Journeys/Camps are involved in the job as one CBI branch covers many districts and you need to travel to observe the ground level situation. Sometimes you need to go to remote villages as crime is possible anywhere. Travels may be more if you are posted in non-ACB branches like Special Crime. This gives them the feeling of missing their family for those days. Positive side of this is that you can see entire India on government expenses. For all your journeys and stays, nearest central government departments or PSUs MUST support us in providing the vehicles and guest houses on nominal expenses. Yes!! you read it correct. If any officer says 'no' to you for such requests, call his boss to educate that person on the rules and get your work done.
- Sometimes weekend work i.e. on Saturdays. However, we are paid for this extra day.
- Place of posting. This is a common problem in most of the central jobs, not just in CBI. In IT and Excise, they have more branches when compared to CBI, ED. Read more here.
- Necessity to appear (you should not even give a doubt) as well as showcase the integrity. Unlike in other departments, this is must in CBI. Strict vigilance in CBI which made CBI a very unique organization. So, people who themselves doubt their own integrity gets filtered out while opting this post.
- Most people believe that Govt job is meant for enjoying rest of the life without any responsibilities. In CBI, that luxury is limited. If we don't file the charge-sheet within limited time, the accused will take bail and move freely for which we personally feel it as a shame. When the accused is out, he may tamper the crucial evidences, making our job more tougher.
- A few people don't have the instinct of investigation and hence they decide to stay away from such jobs.
- If CBI cutoff in CGL is less and the cutoff is higher for other posts, we should actually consider the vacancies in each posts and the competition involved. We should not come to a conclusion that CBI is less wanted because of some unknown tough reasons.
- Need for Physical requirements and medical fitness to be eligible for this post.
- CBI majorly handles corrupt central govt servants but not common citizens, though they deal with common man in other cases of special crime, economic offenses and bank frauds. IT and ED can deal with any person. CBI deals with cream of the society.
- When you go for traps, very rarely some accused will turn aggressive as their life, reputation, family, properties, job and whatnot everything is at stake. Out of mad mind, some take the risk of attacking CBI person but this is very very... rare. In fact, if the person in mad, such problem will be there for any given service, not just CBI.
