Note: Pls don't ask anyone about probable number of vacancies in next exam cycle as no one knows about it until it is declared. You understand it better when you know the actual process involved in deciding the same. Even the SSC don't decide the vacancies by itself. The board depends on the respective departments on the number of vacancies which is again subject to approval of the DoPT. If there is no such scrutiny, all the departments will give 1000 as vacancies so that they will have surplus employees and hence their overall workload will be less. Such misuse should be avoided. Having more number of employees is a burden to government exchequer and hence such review mechanism in place. SSC needs to coordinate with almost 20-30 departments and many internal approvals are involved in each department. As this is a complicated and time taking thing, SSC can't wait until the process is over. So, SSC goes ahead with CGL notification, which is in their hands, without publishing vacancies. They fix the number of vacancies as selection process progresses. If SSC have such data beforehand, what is the point keeping such data with them and keep replying thousands of RTI applications on number of vacancies. Finally, don't waste your time asking this question here and there as no one can give you right information, other than giving an expectation which you can even do yourself based on previous year vacancies published above. Hope you get it now !!

Also, observe the Competition Index given down below to understand how much competition is increasing every year for this particular service.
Competition Index:
We all perceive and say that competition is increasing every year for any given post. But, how much? How to quantify how much competition has increased for any given post?
For this, i prepared a new index (like Sensex, Global Happiness Index etc.) called "competition index" to know how much competition is increasing every year and i plotted that on a graph. Shared below the same. I prepared the index as per the actual data available and i made value of such index to be similar and near to a cutoff mark so that it is easier to remember.
Example: The index for the year 2016 is 524. But, we don't have any such direct final cutoff number in 2016 data. So, this index is not exactly final cutoff mark but looks similar i.e. Index ≠ Final Cutoff but Index ~ Final Cutoff
You can see that competition is likely to further increase (white dotted line). I am planning to share SSC CGL Cutoff and Vacancies analysis and the competition index for other posts in coming days. This index helps us even to estimate the expected cutoff in next exam results.

DeleteBest of luck!!
as per the official website of cbi dated 03-07-2015. the sanctioned strength of Sub Inspector in 2015 was 414 out of which 126 post was vacant . But as per the SSC, number of recruited SI was 117 in 2016 and 54 in 2017 . Total of 171 SI are selected by SSC in 2016 and 2017. so all the vacant post are full now. So what can we expect in SSC CGL 2018.
